Interferometric Radar for Glacier Movement Monitoring

Interferometric Radar for Glacier Movement Monitoring

ISPAS utilizes interferometric radar technology to measure subtle movements in glaciers with high precision. This method enables long-range, non-invasive monitoring of glacial dynamics, contributing valuable data to climate and environmental research.

The first deployment took place in 2007 at the Kronebreen glacier in Svalbard, in collaboration with the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), as part of the international Glaciodyn project. The system has since demonstrated its effectiveness in capturing fine-scale displacement patterns in challenging Arctic conditions.
