Our History
Founded in 2001, ISPAS AS was established by scientists with deep expertise in electronic warfare and radar technology from the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI). Since its inception, ISPAS has delivered broadband calibrated radar systems and conducted Radar Cross Section (RCS) measurements for both national and international clients—primarily military organizations. One notable example is ISPAS’ ongoing RCS measurement work for the Royal Norwegian Navy, including assessments of small vessels.
- Early Years: Delivered radar cross-section (RCS) systems and software to the Norwegian Navy and international partners.
- Environmental Monitoring: Used radar to monitor rockslides and glaciers in Norway and Svalbard.
- Oil Spill Detection (OSD): Developed a radar system that detects oil on calm seas. It’s installed on major offshore platforms like Edvard Grieg, Johan Sverdrup, and Johan Castberg.
- Awards & Recognition: Nominated for the Norwegian Tech Award in 2019. Radar tested during the CAATEX expedition to the North Pole.
- Custom Radar Solutions: Supplies turnkey radar containers and training systems for the F-35 program.
ISPAS utilizes interferometric radar technology to measure subtle movements in glaciers with high precision. This method enables long-range, non-invasive monitoring of glacial dynamics, contributing valuable data to climate and environmental research.
On November 5, 2019, ISPAS was honored with a nomination for the prestigious Norwegian Tech Award for its innovative radar solution designed to detect oil spills on calm sea surfaces. This recognition highlights ISPAS’s commitment to cutting-edge environmental monitoring technologies.
